Innovation Through Fusion: The Cheeseburger
Another innovative idea born out of fusion involves the creation of the cheeseburger. Legend has it that 16-year-old Lionel Sternberger decided to add a slice of American cheese to a cooking hamburger at his father’s sandwich shop, giving birth to this iconic dish. Interestingly, he named it a “cheese hamburger,” missing the chance to coin a catchy portmanteau. However, the true breakthrough came when Kaelin’s restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky officially featured the cheeseburger on its menu in 1934. The marketing genius, Louis Ballast of Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, then trademarked the name “cheeseburger” in 1935.
The lesson here is clear – fusion not only works wonders in product development but when coupled with innovative marketing, it transforms into a powerhouse. Cheeseburger remains the only portmanteau name for a burger! All other burgers have two word names.
In the digital age the fusion of documents and apps into #infoapps, makes #digidocs, #digdocs deliciously snackable.
